"Active Directory"

Typically the solution that we reccomend in most cases as it benefits from having been designed with modern installation technologies.

Active Directory can integrate with your network and user configuration by using AD to automatically install software as the user's, or the machine's, circumstances are changed. Such as moving from one department to another where different specialists applications are required.

Configuration

In adition to installation AD Policies can be created to control various aspects of the applications such as configuration & security settings.

Whilst an older technology it has advantages in terms of feedback and analysis of what has successfully (or not) been installed on your client machines.

DFS & FRS

These anonymous accronyms refer to Distributed File System and File Replication Service. Two technologies that used in conjunction with AD, SMS or other istribution tools can substantialy enhance deployment and increase resilience

DFS

This allows your data (in this case an installation) to be located on several seperate servers in such a way that if one becomes un-available another will transparently take it's place.

FRS

This allows your data (in this case an installation) to be automatically copied between servers in different locations so that the files are near to those that need them whether in the same office as you or in a different country
